fuzhou America Presents:
TAKE-OUT ONLY Unpacking Our Stories
This event has ended.
OUR STORY
You know how the story goes…someone in our family — usually a father, uncle, or grandfather — crossed the Atlantic by boat.
Then, they opened up take-out restaurants in every corner of this country. From the rural villages back in Fuzhou, they succeeded in carving out a space for us in America.
But with all success comes sacrifice. Not only did our parents give up their personal freedoms, but many of us also grew up in socially disconnected environments — stranded between assimilating into American teenage life and helping out at the family restaurant.
We lacked a community that FULLY understood our struggles with family relations, social dynamics, and personal identity.
Fuzhou America is THAT safe space. Here, the kids of East Broadway can find peers that think like us, sound like us, and FEEL like us. In just 3 years we’ve united over 8000 Fuzhounese Americans on Subtle Fuzhou Traits and hosted 100+ events across 8 cities.
And now we’re throwing the biggest gathering yet: TAKE-OUT ONLY — the first conference serving the Fuzhounese American community. You’ll meet Fuzhounese founders, non-profit leaders, scientists, and artists who are all about paying it forward to the next generation.
Whether it’s peeling shrimps at the family restaurant, attending a banquet wedding at East Broadway Mall, or getting roasted for not speaking the dialect, we all have so many stories to tell.
JOIN US on this journey to unpack, heal, and grow together.
